Youth Leadership Summit

Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) is for middle and high school student leaders who want to see and affect change in their community.

The information below and the associated form are the first steps in the registration process.

Group Registration

Thank you for your interest in the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration Youth Leadership Summit (YLS). Please review the following guidelines carefully.

Group Information

  • Organizations may register a maximum of 16 students and 2 chaperones.
  • Groups are responsible for arranging their own transportation and paying all parking fees throughout the weekend.
  • Only registered participants are permitted. No outside, non-registered guests are allowed during the weekend. This includes children, spouses, parents, and partners.
  • Tobacco, alcohol, firearms, weapons, and vaping are strictly prohibited by all participants throughout the duration of the event.

Student Information

  • YLS is open to students entering 7th through 12th grade in the 2026-2027 school year. (Class of 2026 is prohibited from attending).
  • An individual registration form must be completed by each participant, including chaperones. Youth participants must have their form completed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Students under the age of 18 at the time of registration must have a “Parental Permission” form signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Chaperone Information

  • There must be one chaperone for every eight (8) students. Two chaperones are required for groups exceeding eight (8) students.
  • Chaperones must be at least 25 years old.
  • Chaperones must remain on-site all weekend; shift-trading is not permitted.
  • All chaperones must complete a mandatory background check processed by IBE.
  • Chaperones are required to attend a mandatory meeting with YLS in June; dates will be provided after registration is received.

Registration Fees & Deadlines

  • $125.00 per group of eight (8) students (or portion thereof) $250.00 for a full group of 16 students and two chaperones. All fees are non-refundable.
  • Rosters and payment are due by May 18th. All participants must complete registration by May 22. Any registration changes, including adding or removing participants, made after May 23 will require an additional $125 fee. No registration changes or updates will be accepted after June 5.

Important: Any student or chaperone who attempts to attend the day of the event without completing registration by the due date will not be allowed to participate and will be sent home
