Indiana University Education Conference Presented by Indiana Civil Rights Commission
July 19, 2018 @ 7:00 am - 4:30 pm$45.00
The 11th annual conference provides teachers, administrators, and others concerned with education with resources, best practices, and professional development training in the area of cultural competency.
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson – Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University and was named by Essence magazine as one of the 50 most inspiring African Americans in the United States. He is an MSNBC political analyst and former host of NPR’s The Michael Eric Dyson Show and an award-winning author. His speeches and books both provide some of the most significant commentary on modern social and intellectual thought, interwoven with a combination of cultural criticism, race theory, religion, and philosophical reflection and gender studies.
Rodney Walker – A bi-product of drug-addicted parents from Chicago’s most notorious public housing projects, Rodney’s upbringing was destined for failure. Within the first twelve years of his life, Rodney had been in multiple foster homes, was diagnosed with mild autism and placed in special education, repeated the fourth grade due to poor academic performance, experienced physical and psychological abuse from caretakers, and finished his freshman year of high school with a sub- 2.0 GPA. But today, Rodney is an award-winning entrepreneur, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, a Master’s degree from Yale University, has toured 10 different countries, and delivered a keynote at the White House on the importance of financial literacy for urban youth – all by the age of 25.
